We started our adventure in the spring of 2007 by purchasing a PA-18 Super Cub airplane, a handfull of minnow traps and 8 minnow blocks covering approximately 200 square miles of area to trap. The learning curve on how to trap and store large quantities of live bait was quite steep. With the help of various people already established in the business as well as some local pioneers in the bait industry we are now able to store over 50 gallons of minnows (4200 dozen)  along with around 1200 pounds of leeches. Today we have expanded to cover over 400 square miles of bait grounds. Our premium live bait can now be found all over northwestern Ontario including Ear Falls, Vermillion Bay, Morson, Emo, Fort Frances, Sioux Narrows, Rainy River and of course Nestor Falls. In the spring of 2010 we moved the entire operation to downtown Nestor Falls.  With the dedicated help of close friends, family and staff, we opened the doors in October to a brand new store :  Gate's Bait!  The retail store covers most of the outdoorsman and tourist needs.  We range in our retail inventory with bait and tackle, sporting goods, fuel, convenience foods, and fish and wild game processing. We also have a full line of homemade sausage and pepperettes custom made from your own wild game.

In November 2012 we purchased Sunset Cove Resort!  This Resort is beautiful and has beach frontage right on Lake of the Woods in Nestor Falls, ON.  We are moving the entire Gate's Bait operation to the Sunset Cove Resort to better service our guests and customers by having everything available all at one stop whether it be:  Cabin Rentals (American and Housekeeping Plans), Bait, Guided Fishing Trips, Boat Rentals, Hunting Excursions, and Wild Game Processing.

We have 3 energetic children who love the outdoors and who you will probably know very well by the end of your stay!
